Rubber bands (elastics) put gentle force on individual tooth to move towards the right direction. This force may cause some discomfort at first but please don't leave your elastics off. This will only slow down your treatment process. Once your teeth have moved and loosened, the soreness will go away. Leaving off your rubber bands allows your teeth to shift back to where they were before.

• Follow instructions exactly and wear your rubber bands faithfully.
• Change your elastics regularly; they lose their stretch and become tired.
• Carry extras with you away from home.
• Learn to eat your meals while wearing your elastics. This really helps.
• Remove your rubber bands only to brush your teeth after meals. Then put fresh ones on immediately.
• Call our office if one of the hooks holding your rubber bands breaks or bends. You shouldn't miss a single day of wear.
• When you're about to have used all the rubber bands, please call our office so that we can send extra rubber bands to you by mail.
• Please call our office if your lower jaw hurts from wearing elastics.
